Coach Kern's 6th Rebuild - UL Monroe

For my final scheduled rebuild I wanted to go with a group of 5 school. In the Group of 5 I am already doing rebuilds for James Madison and Navy.

I wanted to choose a Group of 5 team that has not had many if not any success.

According to Wikipedia these are the worst 15 teams since 2000:

1. Duke 19-97 (.164)

2. Army 25-92 (.214)

3. Eastern Michigan 27-89 (.233)

4. FIU 14-45 (.237)

5. Buffalo 30-88 (.254)

6. Idaho 31-87 (.263)

7. Utah State 32-83 (.278)

8. SMU 34-84 (.288)

9. Vanderbilt 34-83 (.291)

10. Temple 34-83 (.291)

11. Baylor 34-82 (.293)

12. New Mexico State 37-83 (.308)

13. UL Monroe 37-79 (.319)

14. San Diego State 38-80 (.322)

15. Indiana 39-78 (.333)

Since I am looking for a Group of 5 team that eliminates Duke, SMU, Vanderbilt, Baylor, and Indiana. Idaho is no longer in FBS so they are eliminated. Since I am doing a rebuild of Navy I don't want to do Army as well. FIU has only been in FBS for a short period.

That leaves me with: Eastern Michigan, Buffalo, Utah State, Temple, New Mexico State, UL Monroe, San Diego State.

San Diego State (2021), Utah State (2021), Temple (2015, 2016), and Buffalo (2020) have all had recent success with conference championships so I am eliminating them.

That leaves 3 teams: Eastern Michigan, New Mexico State, and UL Monroe.

Eastern Michigan has had 1 season above 8 wins since 1987 (9 wins in 2022) but have had at least 10 losses in 7 times since 2005.

New Mexico State has won more than 8 wins once since 1960 when they went 11-0 (2023 10-5).

UL Monroe has never won more than 8 games in a FBS season going 8-5 in 2012 which is also their only winning season in FBS. They joined in 1994.

Of those 3, I decided to go with UL Monroe. It is time for them to have their first 10 win season in FBS.
